The Goa Governor P S S Pillai’s recent announcement about the completion of the much-awaited MOPA airport has got the town buzzing. Many experts believe that this new project will boost demand for second homes in Goa. The state has continued to grow as a much sought-after destination for vacation homes. Its quiet hinterlands, soothing seashores and well-balanced lifestyle make it perfect for anyone who wants to take a break from the high-paced urban life. Here are some changes brought in by the upcoming MOPA airport that will boost demands for second homes in Goa:

The airport’s location

Goa’s current international and domestic airport is located in Dabolim, a part of Goa that is separated from the more popular hotspots. The new airport in Goa is relatively closer to the much-loved locations in Goa. Moreover, the new airport overcomes the limitations put by the Dabolim airport’s shared military airfield. Since the same runways are used for both military aircrafts and chartered commercial flights, it leads to congestion, limiting the number of flights and causing delays. The upcoming airport in Goa will be dedicated to only chartered commercial flights, hence flawlessly mitigating this issue.

Goa’s charm as a luxury estate market

Goa’s visual appeal and natural embrace have fostered the growth of a luxury real estate market. These projects usually revolve around gated communities with a limited number of  large spacious villas that cater to a select few. These upmarket homes offer the beauty of Goa with a touch of privacy and generally make for ideal vacation homes. If unused, they are also rented out to tourists or anyone seeking a long-term stay in Goa. Houses in Goa can reap up to an average 14% returns.

Recreational options in North Goa

As mentioned, the Mopa airport’s location in north Goa places it close to villages like Arambol, Anjuna, Assagao and Calangute. As opposed to the 40 odd kms between the current Dabolim airport and some of these villages, the Mopa airport is at a distance of 30kms from them. This means homeowners can avoid the hassle of having to travel long distances and use this as a marketing opportunity too.

The Mopa airport has been a long-awaited project, having braved the COVID-19 pandemic it is expected to be completed by August 2022. It will drastically change the face of Goa’s tourism due to the increased liberty that its freedom from the military airstrip will bring. This will make flights to and from Goa more accessible and bring in more tourists and people looking to own vacation homes in the state. Thus promising to boost the demand for second homes in Goa.
